Who I Am

Karen Eastburn discovered her passion for handbells in the early 1990’s. Soon she began ringing in 2 choirs and directing the youth bells at Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. In 1994 Karen was invited to join the music staff as coordinator of the Handbell Ministry and continues to serve in this capacity; directing 2 ensembles and ringing in another.

The church’s graded program has grown in her almost 20 years of leadership from 4 ensembles to 7 ensembles and currently involves children in Grade 3 through adults 80+ years of age. Beginning with one 4 octave set of Malmark handbells, the program has expanded to owning  3 sets of bells:  almost 2 octaves used for duplicating parts, 3 and 5 octave sets of Malmark handbells plus 3 octave and 6 octave sets of Choirchimes. Custer Road UMC's
ringing ministry involves all ages of children, youth and adults. The church's education program also includes Choirchimes in the Joyful Noise elementary classroom.

Ms. Eastburn is a member of the
Handbell Musicians of America (formerly the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers)
and has earned a Handbell Director
Level 1 Certification from the former AGEHR in 2003. Karen is currently working on attaining a new certification through the Handbell Musicians of America.

As a volunteer in the music community, Karen has served as secretary on the Boards of the Dallas Chapter Choristers Guild and the Greater Dallas Handbell Association. Recently, Karen served a third term on the GDHA Board of Directors as chair for the Fall Workshop for Directors and Ringers and has taught classes at the state and local level.
Karen has been accepted into the Handbell Musicians of America advanced ringing event, Distinctly Bronze, for 5 years.

Proudly and enthusiastically Karen offers personalized sales and service of handbells and Choirchimes as an area representative for
Malmark Bellcraftsmen in Texas and Oklahoma.

Karen finds great reward in teaching others about the joys of handbell and handchime ringing and is currently enjoying the challenge of solo handbell ringing.
Soli Deo Gloria!
